Austin Aries Tapped to Represent MLW at CMLL Grand Prix Internacional on August 7

Major League Wrestling has announced that Austin Aries will serve as its representative at the CMLL Grand Prix Internacional 2026, set to take place on Friday, August 7 at Arena México in Mexico City.

Aries will compete as part of Team International, going up against Team Mexico in one of lucha libre’s most storied annual traditions. The Grand Prix Internacional has been a fixture on the CMLL calendar since 1994, bringing together elite competitors from promotions around the world under the roof of one of professional wrestling’s most iconic venues. Among the organizations with representatives in the 2026 field is New Japan Pro-Wrestling, signaling the breadth of international talent expected to participate.

On the Mexican side, CMLL has already confirmed Volador Jr., Titán, and Xelhua as the first members of Team Mexico, with additional roster announcements for both squads expected in the weeks ahead.

Aries brings a well-established reputation for technical wrestling and a lengthy championship résumé to the assignment. His selection reflects the deepening partnership between MLW and CMLL, an alliance that has sent CMLL talent stateside for MLW events while opening international doors for MLW competitors.

MLW Founder and CEO Court Bauer framed the opportunity in broad terms, calling the Grand Prix a genuine celebration of the sport’s global reach and expressing gratitude to CMLL and the participating promotions for keeping the tradition alive. Bauer also extended thanks specifically to Salvador Lutteroth and wished all competitors well.

With the August 7 date on the horizon, the Grand Prix Internacional shapes up as a marquee cross-promotional showcase — and a significant stage for Aries to fly the MLW flag on international soil.
