AEW Adds Tag Title Match To Redemption Card In Montreal

AEW has locked in another title match for Redemption, confirming that Adam Copeland and Christian Cage will put the AEW World Tag Team Championship on the line against Claudio Castagnoli and PAC of the Death Riders. The announcement came via social media on Thursday night, adding fresh stakes to the promotion’s upcoming premium live event in Montreal, Quebec, on Sunday, July 26.

Copeland and Cage enter the match fresh off a successful defense against Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia on this week’s episode of Dynamite. That win didn’t come without consequences, though — Castagnoli and The Dogs stormed the ring after the bout for a post-match beatdown, with members of the Bang Bang Gang also getting involved. The chaos has only ratcheted up the tension heading into the champions’ third title defense since capturing the belts from FTR at Double or Nothing in May.

For Castagnoli and PAC, Redemption represents a chance to add AEW World Tag Team gold to their résumé as a pairing for the first time. Given Castagnoli’s recent alignment with the Death Riders and his personal history in the tag division, the challengers figure to bring a physical, hard-hitting style to the champions’ toughest test yet.

The tag title bout joins a stacked lineup already taking shape for Redemption. Kenny Omega defends the AEW World Championship against Kevin Knight, while Thekla puts the Women’s World Championship on the line opposite Willow Nightingale. Mark Davis defends the National Championship against Andrade El Idolo, and Kyle Fletcher squares off with Bandido for the International Championship. Chris Jericho and Tommaso Ciampa are also set to collide, and the show’s pre-show will feature a celebration of Montreal’s own Rougeau wrestling dynasty.

With five title matches now on the docket and the Death Riders’ rivalry with the Bang Bang Gang boiling over, Redemption is shaping up to be one of AEW’s most heavily contested cards of the summer when it streams live on HBO Max pay-per-view.
