AAA Sets Fatal Four Way To Crown New Latin American Champion

AAA has kicked off a tournament to determine a new Latin American Champion, with the field set to be finalized in a Fatal Four Way Match at TripleMania 34 this September.

The title picture opened up after El Hijo del Vikingo was forced to vacate the championship due to injury. General Manager Rey Mysterio addressed the vacancy on the July 18 episode of AAA on Fox, laying out a plan for qualifying matches to fill out a four-way title bout at TripleMania 34, which is scheduled for September 11 and 13.

The first qualifier took place on that same broadcast, with El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. topping Abismo Negro and Texano Jr. in a Triple Threat to punch his ticket to the four-way. The win carries some extra weight given his family ties to the title — his father, Dr. Wagner, was AAA’s very first Latin American Champion.

Three more qualifying matches remain to fill out the rest of the field: La Parka takes on Mecha Wolf and Dragon Lee, El Fiscal squares off with Cruz Del Toro and Psycho Clown, and Omos meets Damian Priest and Galeno. The winners of each will join El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. in the championship-deciding Fatal Four Way at TripleMania 34.

Mysterio’s show-opening segment also included news on the roster front, as he welcomed Andrea Bazarte back to AAA with a new contract that comes with a pay increase.

With Vikingo sidelined and the title up for grabs, AAA now has multiple storylines converging toward a fresh crowning at its biggest event of the year. Expect more clarity on the final four-way lineup as the remaining qualifiers play out in the weeks ahead.
