Anthony Bowens isn’t exactly selling hope for an Acclaimed reunion. Asked directly by a fan whether he’d ever team back up with Max Caster, Bowens gave a blunt response that suggested fans shouldn’t hold their breath — a notable answer given that both men are reportedly closing in on free agency.

The Acclaimed, one of AEW’s signature acts during the promotion’s early rise, split in January 2025 after a run that included multiple stints as tag team champions and a run of viral moments — from the “Scissor Me, Daddy Ass” catchphrase to Caster’s pre-match freestyle raps — that helped define the company’s identity in its first few years. Since the breakup, Bowens has continued on in AEW while pursuing his own singles path, and Caster has done the same, but neither has approached the sustained momentum the pairing built together.

The timing of Bowens’ comments is what makes them worth paying attention to. With reports circulating that both he and Caster are nearing the end of their AEW deals, speculation about a reunion — whether in AEW or elsewhere — was always going to follow. A tag team with the built-in nostalgia and crowd recognition of The Acclaimed would be an appealing chip for either side in contract negotiations, and fans asking about a reunion is a natural response to that uncertainty. Bowens shutting the door, even informally, tells us he’s not interested in using nostalgia as leverage, or that he simply views that chapter as closed.

It’s also a reminder of how differently Bowens and Caster’s post-breakup runs have played out compared to expectations.
