Brie Bella’s WWE Return Path Debated After SummerSlam Injury

Brie Bella remains sidelined from WWE with a shoulder blade injury suffered during six-woman tag team action at SummerSlam on August 1, and with roughly two months now passed since that setback, attention is turning to how — and when — the Hall of Famer eventually makes her way back to the ring.

Brie initially downplayed the severity of the injury, saying she’d be out for “a bit,” before later clarifying that her recovery timeline could stretch anywhere from three to six months. That puts a realistic return window somewhere between the tail end of 2026 and early 2027, and with her career widely viewed as entering its final stretch, every option on the table carries extra weight.

One obvious possibility is a repeat of history: Brie made her most recent WWE comeback at this year’s Royal Rumble, and a six-month recovery would line up almost perfectly with the 2027 edition of that event. The Rumble has long been WWE’s preferred stage for splashy returns, and given the unpredictable nature of the women’s match, slotting Brie back in there would be a low-risk, high-impact way to reintroduce her.

There’s also unfinished business with the Women’s Tag Team Championship. When Brie returned earlier this year, she and twin sister Nikki made clear their goal was to capture that title as a team. That plan hit a snag at WrestleMania 42, when Brie won the belts alongside Paige rather than Nikki, who was out with her own injury. With Nikki having signaled she intends to retire from in-ring competition by the end of 2027, the twins effectively have a closing window of just over a year to complete that specific goal together — assuming WWE wants to write toward it.

A third route would lean into the Bella Twins’ history rather than their partnership. Nikki and Brie had a brief on-screen rivalry back in 2014 before reuniting as a team, and revisiting that dynamic — even for a single match — would give WWE a built-in, nostalgia-driven angle as both sisters approach the ends of their careers. Given how much of Brie’s current run has centered on her family and her children watching her compete, a sister-versus-sister showdown would add real emotional stakes to whatever comes next.

Then there’s the wildcard: Blake Monroe. Ahead of her SmackDown in-ring debut, Monroe pitched herself as a female “Legend Killer” and specifically named both Bella Twins among the veterans she’d like to retire on her way up the card. If WWE is looking to build a new star off the back of an established name, using Brie’s final match to elevate Monroe would be a familiar, tried-and-true storytelling device — and Monroe has already been teased in program with Nikki as well.

None of these paths are confirmed, and Brie’s actual clearance date remains the biggest variable. But with a Hall of Fame résumé, a retirement clock ticking, and multiple storylines still open, WWE has no shortage of ways to make her comeback count. Whichever direction the company chooses, it’s clear Brie Bella’s next run will be treated as more than just another return — it may be the beginning of her farewell.
