Cena, Umaga, Lesnar Floated as 2027 WWE Hall of Fame Candidates

With WrestleMania 43 still without a confirmed date, speculation is already swirling around who could headline the 2027 WWE Hall of Fame class — and three Ruthless Aggression Era names keep coming up as strong candidates: John Cena, Umaga, and Brock Lesnar.

WWE has traditionally waited until it’s firmly on the road to WrestleMania before revealing Hall of Fame inductees, but that changed last year when the first name in the 2026 class was announced at Wrestlepalooza in September 2025. That shift in timing is why chatter about the 2027 class is already heating up months ahead of schedule.

John Cena is the most obvious frontrunner. His 23-year in-ring career came to a close in December 2025, and he remains attached to WWE in an ambassador capacity, which should make scheduling a Hall of Fame induction relatively simple. The complicating factor is Cena’s booming acting career — a wrinkle shared by fellow crossover stars like The Rock and Dave Bautista — and it becomes even more relevant with WrestleMania set to be held overseas for the first time in company history in 2027.

Umaga presents a more sentimental case. The Samoan Bulldozer’s WWE run was relatively brief, peaking in the mid-2000s, but his impact has only grown thanks to the enduring popularity of the Bloodline storyline and the fact that his son, Zilla Fatu, is now under WWE contract on NXT. Umaga’s Last Man Standing classic with Cena at the 2007 Royal Rumble remains one of the most fondly remembered matches of that era, and honoring him now would tie neatly into the ongoing Samoan dynasty narrative WWE has built around the Anoa’i family.

Then there’s Brock Lesnar, whose retirement is the freshest of the three. Lesnar’s original WWE run began in 2002, and within five months of his debut he’d already won King of the Ring and dethroned The Rock for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam to become the youngest champion in company history — a record broken two years later by Randy Orton at the same event. After a run through the NFL and UFC, Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012 as a former UFC Heavyweight Champion and spent the next decade-plus as one of the promotion’s biggest box-office draws.

None of these names have been confirmed, but the pattern is worth watching. WWE inducted AJ Styles into the Hall of Fame shortly after his retirement earlier this year, suggesting a template where recently retired stars get fast-tracked. If that trend holds, Lesnar in particular looks like a natural pick given how recently he stepped away from in-ring competition.

With WrestleMania 43 breaking new ground overseas, the Hall of Fame ceremony that kicks off the weekend carries extra weight in 2027. Whether it’s Cena’s star power, Umaga’s legacy through the Bloodline, or Lesnar’s box-office pedigree, WWE has options that could make for a headline-worthy induction class. Confirmation, as always, will likely come as the company edges closer to the show itself.
