Perros del Mal is back in AAA, and at least one alumna of the faction’s earlier run has feelings about it.
The June 20th episode of Lucha Libre AAA on FOX closed with a major angle: El Grande Americano was jumped by a reformed Perros del Mal, with Daga, Karmen Petrovic, Bronco Nima, Berto, and Angel making up the new lineup. It was a statement moment to end the show, signaling that the storied Perros del Mal banner is back in play on AAA television.
The reformation drew a response from Taya Valkyrie, who was part of a previous incarnation of the faction. Taya didn’t hold back on her affection for the group she was once a part of, saying, “I will always treasure Perros del Mal, it was magic.”
Perros del Mal has a long and significant history in Mexican wrestling, originally built around the late El Hijo de Perro Aguayo. The faction became one of the most recognizable stables in lucha libre, and membership in it carried genuine cachet. For Taya — who has since gone on to prominent runs in Impact Wrestling and WWE — her time in the group clearly left a lasting impression.
The new version of Perros del Mal brings together a mix of AAA regulars and talent with broader international experience. How the group positions itself going forward, and what their pursuit of El Grande Americano ultimately leads to, figures to be a focal point of the AAA product in the weeks ahead.
