Chelsea Green Says Triple H Once Discussed Serious Character Shift

Chelsea Green says there was once a real conversation inside WWE about scrapping her comedic persona for something far more serious — a plan that fizzled out almost as soon as it began.

Speaking on the Complex Graps Wrestling Podcast, the current Interim WWE Women’s Champion revealed that she sat down with Paul “Triple H” Levesque roughly a year ago to discuss dialing back her over-the-top antics in favor of presenting herself as a legitimate, hard-nosed competitor. According to Green, the plan didn’t survive contact with WWE’s actual creative direction.

“About a year ago, I had a conversation with Hunter. We sat down and we talked about me going in a more serious direction,” Green said. “Literally the next week, I was put in a comedy spot that lasted like 30 seconds and I was pinned. I’m like, ‘Well, I fear we’re here to stay.’ And we never, him and I never spoke about it again.”

Green called the whole exchange almost comical in hindsight, recalling that she and Triple H had mapped out toning down her mannerisms and adopting a more polished, hard-hitting in-ring style — only for her to end up hitting Jade Cargill’s finisher, the Jaded, in a segment shortly after.

Rather than push the issue, Green says she ultimately leaned back into the character that had already made her a fixture of the women’s division. She credits the exaggerated, complaint-filled persona — full of theatrics and manufactured outrage — with carving out a niche nobody else on the roster occupies.

“I feel like I found my niche. I found my lane. Why did I try to get out of the lane? The lane works. It’s my lane. I made the lane,” Green said. “I invite others to come in and try it, but at the end of the day, I know that what I do, I do it better than anyone else. That’s why it works. That’s why people believe it, and that’s why they turned me babyface naturally.”

Green’s current run traces back to her surprise return in the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble, where she immediately committed to a heel act built on tantrums, dramatic reactions and escalating absurdity. Instead of undercutting her, that commitment turned into one of WWE’s more unlikely fan-favorite transformations — audiences began cheering the very qualities designed to make them boo, and Green rode that goodwill all the way to championship gold.

The episode is a useful reminder of how fluid WWE’s creative planning can be, even at the top level. A direct conversation with Triple H about a character overhaul didn’t translate into any lasting shift, seemingly because the on-screen product was already working too well to disrupt. For Green, that outcome now reads less like a missed opportunity and more like validation — proof that the persona she built herself was the right call all along.

With the Interim Women’s Championship in hand, Green’s comedic chaos shows no signs of disappearing anytime soon, and it’s hard to argue the character needs fixing when it’s carried her this far.
