Waltman: Lesnar Looked Better Than Oba Femi at SummerSlam

Sean Waltman came away from SummerSlam more impressed with Brock Lesnar’s condition than with the man who beat him.

The WWE Hall of Famer was in Minneapolis for Saturday night’s SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium, watching from ringside alongside Jimmy Hart and fellow Hall of Famer Mark Henry. Speaking afterward on WWE Now, Waltman was asked about Lesnar’s performance in the trilogy-ending main event against Oba Femi and didn’t hold back.

“Man, was he in shape,” Waltman said. “Both of them. No offense to Oba, because he’s a monster. I think Brock looked better than Oba.”

That’s a notable compliment given the timing. Lesnar turned 49 in July and worked his tenth SummerSlam main event, a milestone made more meaningful by the setting — Minnesota is the state Lesnar is billed from, giving the show a homecoming feel even in defeat.

The Femi–Lesnar rivalry had been building across 2026, with the two trading wins in a best-of-three-style feud. Femi got the first fall at WrestleMania 42, Lesnar answered back at Clash in Italy, and SummerSlam was billed as the decider. Femi finally closed the book with his finishing Fall From Grace, though not before Lesnar answered with a tombstone onto the exposed wooden boards beneath the ring — the kind of visual that’s become a hallmark of Lesnar’s biggest matches.

What stood out afterward was the way Lesnar handled the loss. Rather than storming off, he returned to the ring to raise Femi’s hand and told the Minneapolis crowd that Femi represents the future while he represents the past. It read like a passing-of-the-torch moment, but Lesnar notably didn’t use the word “retirement,” leaving open the possibility of another run down the line.

That ambiguity is worth watching. WWE has never been shy about bringing Lesnar back for a big occasion even after seemingly definitive losses, and Waltman’s comments about his physical condition only reinforce the idea that Lesnar could still go if the right spot presents itself. For now, though, the story belongs to Femi, who exits arguably the biggest program of his career having beaten one of the most dominant native attractions the modern WWE has produced.

Waltman, for his part, remains one of the promotion’s most recognizable ambassadors, having been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice — first with D-Generation X, later as a member of the nWo — and his front-row vantage point Saturday gave him a unique read on just how prepared both men were for the moment.

Whether Lesnar’s SummerSlam appearance marks the end of his in-ring chapter or simply another pause remains to be seen.
