Nick Jackson Rules Out Concussion After AEW Redemption Scare

Nick Jackson says he’s in the clear after a frightening moment during AEW Redemption left fans fearing the worst. The Young Bucks star appeared to take a hard shot to the head early in his and Matt Jackson’s tag match against Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay on July 26, and spent much of the bout on the outside while Matt carried the load. The Bucks still found a way to pick up the win, but Nick’s condition afterward became the bigger storyline online.

Speaking on the latest episode of Being The Elite, Nick addressed the concern head-on, revealing he was pulled backstage for evaluation right after the match. “I went to the trainer’s room, of course, obviously, and so, I had to take multiple concussion tests, and I passed, so that’s good,” he said. “They said I definitely had my bell rung. But I had a lot of dizziness.”

While the concussion tests came back clean, Nick explained that the scare was compounded by lingering issues stemming from a separate injury at AEW Forbidden Door in San Jose. He said he landed directly on his head during that pay-per-view and was diagnosed with whiplash rather than a concussion at the time. According to Nick, the symptoms he felt at Redemption closely mirrored what he experienced in the aftermath of that San Jose incident. “Ever since then though, I’ve had these weird effects where I feel kind of like foggy, because of the neck,” he said. “I didn’t have any vision issues or any of that but, today, it felt very similar to what I was experiencing last month. But now I feel a lot better.”

In a lighter moment, Nick added that doctors believe his recovery from the neck injury has been slower than it should be — and pointed to his diet as a factor. “The doctor said that I’m probably not healing fast enough because I’m not having enough carbs,” he said.

For a tag team as protected and as central to AEW’s presentation as The Young Bucks, any moment that looks like a real injury scare is going to draw scrutiny — especially given how visibly compromised Nick appeared during the match. The promotion has leaned heavily on Matt and Nick as both in-ring performers and backstage figures of influence, and a lingering neck issue, even one downgraded from concussion territory, is worth watching closely as they continue to work a full schedule.

It’s also a reminder of how murky recovery from whiplash and post-concussive-like symptoms can be, particularly for wrestlers who take repeated blows to the head and neck over the course of a career. Nick’s candor about still feeling foggy weeks after the original Forbidden Door injury suggests this hasn’t been a clean bill of health, even if the testing after Redemption ruled out the worst-case scenario.

For now, the message from Nick himself is reassuring: he passed every concussion evaluation, and he says he’s feeling considerably better than he did in the moment.
