Rhino Reportedly Returning for AEW’s Detroit Doubleheader

Rhino is reportedly set to make an appearance during AEW’s two-night stop in his hometown of Detroit this week, with the ECW legend expected to show up for either Wednesday’s live Dynamite or Thursday’s special Collision taping at the Masonic Temple Theater. It’s not yet clear which night he’ll pop up on, and his role for the promotion hasn’t been revealed.

This wouldn’t be Rhino’s first rodeo with AEW. He wrestled for the company during its previous Detroit run in 2025, dropping a match to Nick Wayne on Dynamite before sticking around to compete in matches taped for Ring of Honor. Given that history, it wouldn’t be a shock if his latest cameo follows a similar pattern — a hometown moment on the flagship show, possibly with more action to follow depending on how the weekend’s tapings shake out.

Rhino has stayed plenty busy outside of AEW in the meantime. He recently turned up for Scott D’Amore’s Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling promotion, picking up a win over Gama Singh Jr. on the debut episode of its new Mayhem series, which airs on TSN in Canada and streams internationally on MyAEW. He’s also been doing the rounds with local Detroit media to help drum up interest ahead of AEW’s return to the city.

The timing lines up well for AEW, which is leaning into hometown nostalgia as it builds toward All In on August 30. Wednesday’s Dynamite is billed as the direct fallout from AEW Redemption, and the card already has plenty on its plate: The Conglomeration — Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong — defend the AEW World Trios Championship against The Demand (Ricochet, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun), while new Women’s World Champion Willow Nightingale gets her moment to celebrate her title win. Renee Paquette is also set to host a face-to-face interview segment with Adam Copeland, Christian Cage and The Young Bucks ahead of their AEW World Tag Team Championship showdown at All In.

Bringing Rhino into the mix, even briefly, fits the flavor of the week. Detroit has long embraced him as one of its own, and AEW has shown before that it likes sprinkling regional legends into its go-home shows for a pop and a nostalgia beat. Whether he’s there for a segment, a surprise entrance, or something with actual in-ring stakes remains to be seen, but expect Rhino’s presence to be framed as a moment for the hometown crowd rather than a piece of a larger storyline — at least for now. Fans in the building for either night should keep an ear out for the unmistakable sound of the Gore.
