Adam Pearce Named Acting SmackDown GM for July 17

Adam Pearce is stepping back into an authority role on WWE SmackDown. Pearce announced on social media that he will serve as acting general manager for the July 17 episode, filling in after Nick Aldis was attacked and taken out by Gunther on the previous week’s show.

This isn’t the first time Pearce has been called upon to run SmackDown in Aldis’s absence. He previously handled acting GM duties following Night of Champions when Aldis was suspended, giving him recent experience navigating the chaos that tends to follow whenever the roster is left without its usual authority figure.

Gunther’s assault on Aldis has left a significant power vacuum on the blue brand, and with Aldis unable to perform his duties, WWE has once again turned to Pearce — a trusted hand who has bounced between authority roles on both Raw and SmackDown in recent years — to keep things running. His return to the GM chair also raises the question of how Gunther and the rest of the SmackDown roster will respond to seeing Pearce back in charge, given his history of making consequential decisions under pressure.

It remains to be seen how long Pearce will be needed in the role or what fallout from Aldis’s attack will look like once the general manager is able to return. For now, all eyes will be on how Pearce chooses to address the Gunther situation when SmackDown airs.
