Kenny Omega Wins AEW World Championship for Second Time at Beach Break

Kenny Omega is a two-time AEW World Champion. At Beach Break on July 9, 2026, Omega defeated Maxwell Jacob Friedman in a high-stakes title match that carried an extraordinary stipulation: had Omega lost, he would have been permanently barred from challenging for the AEW World Championship ever again. He didn’t lose.

This was the third meeting between the two with the AEW World Title on the line, and the rubber match delivered in a big way. Less than three months prior, at AEW Dynasty, MJF had retained the championship against Omega. To earn this final shot, Omega agreed to MJF’s no-win-no-more condition — a gamble that paid off in dramatic fashion.

The match lived up to its stakes. Omega survived a massive reverse-rana off the top rope followed by MJF’s Heat Seeker, kicking out on both counts. MJF then tried to finish things with the Dynamite Diamond Ring after distracting the referee — but Will Ospreay intervened, stripping MJF of the ring before he could use it. MJF adjusted quickly, landing a low blow and a belt shot on Omega. It wasn’t enough. Omega kicked out at one.

With MJF’s bag of tricks exhausted, Omega unloaded a flurry of V-Triggers and drove MJF down with the One-Winged Angel. Three seconds later, the title changed hands.

Omega’s first reign was one for the history books — a then-record 346 days as AEW World Champion, spanning from December 2, 2020 to November 13, 2021, when he was the promotion’s third-ever title holder. Now, nearly five years removed from that run, Omega reclaims the top spot in All Elite Wrestling. After everything he put on the line to get here, it’s hard to argue he didn’t earn every second of it.
