Tony Khan Calls WWE Scheduling AAA and NXT on All In Day ‘Double the Compliment Jim Crockett Got’

AEW president Tony Khan isn’t losing sleep over the competition. During the NXT Great American Bash broadcast, WWE announced that AAA and NXT will run back-to-back events on Sunday, August 30 in Texas — the same day as AEW All In, and potentially overlapping it in timing. Khan’s response? He framed it as a badge of honor.

Khan invoked the name of Jim Crockett, a nod to the legendary promotional wars of the 1980s when Jim Crockett Promotions and the WWF repeatedly targeted each other’s major events with counter-programming. By Khan’s reading, WWE scheduling not one but two shows on All In day is twice the validation Crockett ever received — a pointed piece of historical spin that positions AEW as the promotion WWE feels compelled to answer.

All In has become one of the biggest cards on AEW’s annual calendar, and the choice of August 30 in Texas as the backdrop for a WWE-AAA co-promotional double-header is hard to read as coincidence. WWE and AAA have maintained a working relationship that gives WWE programming access to AAA talent and branding, making the pairing a credible draw in its own right — particularly in a Texas market with deep lucha libre roots.

Whether the counter-programming actually hurts All In’s audience or buy rate remains to be seen, but Khan’s framing makes clear he intends to treat the scheduling conflict as a compliment rather than a threat. Wrestling fans will get to decide for themselves come August 30.
