Adam Copeland Says 95% of His Bucket-List Matches Are Still Ahead of Him, Uncertain on Retirement Timeline

Adam Copeland isn’t thinking about riding off into the sunset just yet — and by his own account, the best may still be coming.

The former Edge opened up recently about where his career stands, acknowledging that his original retirement timeline has had to shift due to a broken leg and his acting commitments, including work on projects like Beekeeper and Percy Jackson. Despite those setbacks, Copeland sounds energized about what’s still ahead of him in the ring.

“In terms of timeline, I don’t know, but I know that 95% of those matches I want to have are still out there to have, which is pretty cool,” Copeland said. He specifically named FTR and The Young Bucks as tag team matchups still on his list, and rattled off a number of solo opponents he’s eager to work with — Swerve Strickland, Will Ospreay, Kyle Fletcher, Samoa Joe, and Hangman Adam Page among them. “There’s so much to work with and have fun,” he added.

Copeland also credited AEW president Tony Khan for helping him navigate the balance between wrestling and acting — something he said he’d never attempted before, having retired from the ring entirely when his acting career began the first time around. The flexibility and support from Khan, he said, has been enormous in making both pursuits possible simultaneously.

As for what retirement actually looks like when it does come, Copeland was characteristically laid-back: sailing, spending time in the mountains, being a father and husband, and picking up the occasional acting role.

Before any of that, though, he has more immediate business to attend to. Copeland and Christian Cage are set to defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Dogs of War — David Finlay and Clark Connors — at AEW Forbidden Door on June 28. With a lengthy wish list of opponents still unchecked, it sounds like that night is far from a finale.
