TNA Champion Mike Santana Brushes Off WWE Rumors, Locked In On Slammiversary Title Defense

Mike Santana isn’t entertaining questions about his future right now — at least not until after Slammiversary.

The TNA World Champion is set to defend his title against Nic Nemeth this Sunday, June 28, in Boston, and with reports circulating that his TNA contract is due to expire in July and that WWE has interest in signing him, Santana was asked directly about what comes next. His answer was about as focused as you’d expect from a champion heading into a pay-per-view title match.

“I’ve heard the rumors, I’m defending the world title this Sunday in Boston at Slammiversary. That is my focus. Literally all I’ve been thinking about and preparing for is this match against Nic Nemeth,” Santana said.

He went on to frame the bout with Nemeth as a chance to remind people what matters most in professional wrestling. “Nic Nemeth and me are going to go after it, especially with all the transition and changes in TNA, this is the time for us to show what’s most important — it’s all about what happens in the ring. I want people leaving talking about the show and how great it was. Slammiversary, that’s all I’m thinking about. Whatever happens after that happens after that.”

Santana returned to TNA in April 2024 after being granted his release from AEW, where he had spent nearly five years. While championship gold eluded him during his AEW run, he’s found a different level of success back in TNA, eventually capturing the World Championship. He and longtime partner Ortiz are four-time Impact World Tag Team Champions, having originally left the promotion for AEW back in August 2019.

Santana is no stranger to WWE programming either, having made multiple appearances on NXT since May 2025 through the ongoing TNA-WWE partnership, including a Survivor Series-style match at the TNA-NXT Showdown crossover event.

With his contract situation unresolved and a title defense on the line Sunday, Santana is in a position of real leverage heading into what could be a pivotal stretch of his career. For now, though, his attention is squarely on Nemeth and Slammiversary.
