AEW Dynamite Preview (June 24): Moxley vs. Bandido Trios Clash, Takeshita Defends International Title Against Ricochet, Swerve and Ospreay Both in Action Before Forbidden Door

Four days out from AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, tonight’s edition of Dynamite serves as the final major stop on the road to San Jose — and it’s loaded. The show goes live at 8/7c on TBS and HBO Max from the Rio Rancho Events Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

The biggest collision of the evening comes in trios action, where AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley leads Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta against ROH World Champion Bandido, Brody King, and Místico. Moxley and Bandido are set to collide for the Continental Championship at Forbidden Door after Brodido topped Moxley and Daniel Garcia in tag action last week — giving Bandido grounds to issue the title challenge. Tonight’s six-man bout gives both men one more chance to gain psychological ground before Sunday’s championship match.

Garcia, meanwhile, won’t be ringside — he’ll be competing, as the Death Rider representative steps up against Swerve Strickland. Swerve has his own business to settle at Forbidden Door, where he meets Will Ospreay in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament, with a spot in the All In: London main event on the line. Ospreay is also in action tonight, taking on longtime NJPW rival El Phantasmo.

AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita puts the title on the line against Ricochet in what could be a show-stealer. Ricochet has been vocal about Takeshita avoiding him, and tonight he gets his shot — against a champion he has never beaten. Takeshita heads into Forbidden Door as part of Team Briscoe in a six-on-six steel cage match where the stakes couldn’t be higher: a victory for Team Briscoe guarantees Mark Briscoe an AEW World Title shot against MJF. Both Team DCMJF and Team Briscoe will address the crowd in Rio Rancho ahead of that cage collision.

The TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest tournament on July 1 gets two more entrants determined tonight, with Harley Cameron facing Marina Shafir and ROH Women’s World TV Champion Red Velvet squaring off with Queen Aminata in a rematch where both women hold one prior win over the other.

Rounding out the card, “Jungle” Jack Perry faces Zack Sabre Jr. in a measuring-stick match before ZSJ takes on Kenny Omega at Forbidden Door, and the Young Bucks battle TMDK’s Bad Dude Tito and Mikey Nicholls — a warmup of sorts ahead of the Bucks’ three-way tag match on Sunday involving Sky Team and Shingo Takagi and Titán.

It’s a stacked final hour before Forbidden Door — and with championship implications, Owen Cup stakes, and cage match positioning all on the table, tonight’s Dynamite has real consequences before the San Jose pay-per-view weekend kicks off.
