El Grande Americano Targeted by New Los Perros del Mal After Mask vs. Mask Victory, May Need Reinforcements

El Grande Americano barely had time to celebrate one of the biggest wins of his career before a new threat emerged to derail his AAA Mega Championship ambitions.

Following his victory over The Original El Grande Americano — now unmasked as Chad Gable — in a Mask vs. Mask match at WWE AAA Noche de Los Grandes 2026, El Grande set his sights on Dominik Mysterio’s AAA Mega Championship. Those plans hit a snag quickly, however, when a revamped version of Los Perros del Mal ambushed him on the June 20 edition of AAA on FOX. The new five-member faction now stands squarely between El Grande and a title shot, giving him a numbers problem he can’t solve alone.

The timing is notable given the allies El Grande built during his feud with Gable. Pimpinela Escarlata proved to be a key supporter throughout that rivalry — going so far as to hand El Grande a Rey de Reyes qualifying match spot, which he parlayed into winning the Rey de Reyes sword. Texano Jr., the former AAA Mega Champion, also stepped up as a tag team partner during that stretch, though he has been absent from AAA programming since suffering an attack at the hands of The Original El Grande.

On the other side of the coin, Chad Gable has been doing the rounds on Raw and SmackDown since losing his mask, publicly apologizing to any luchador he encounters and openly seeking redemption for the disrespect he showed lucha libre during his run as The Original El Grande Americano. Whether that path to redemption eventually leads him back to AAA — possibly alongside the man who unmasked him — remains to be seen.

With Los Perros del Mal holding a distinct numbers advantage, El Grande will almost certainly need backup before he can realistically pursue Mysterio’s title. The coming weeks on AAA on FOX figure to be crucial in determining who steps up to stand beside him.
