MLW Champion, Indie Talent Added to WWE SummerSlam Tryout

WWE’s SummerSlam week tryout in Minneapolis keeps expanding its guest list, with several more names confirming they’ve landed invitations to the scouting sessions.

MLW Tag Team Champion Josh Bishop is among the latest additions. Bishop currently holds the MLW tag titles alongside Donovan Dijak as part of The Skyscrapers, a spot he took over after Baron Corbin returned to WWE. Corbin had briefly wrestled outside the company under the name Bishop Dyer before heading back. The Ohio native built his reputation on the independent circuit with Absolute Intense Wrestling before landing in MLW.

Also confirmed for the tryout is Jessica Roden, known in OVW as J-Rod. Roden recently gained mainstream exposure on Amazon’s reboot of American Gladiators, competing under the name “Supernova.” That revival leaned heavily on wrestling talent, with The Miz hosting and a cast that included Wardlow, Kamille, Jessie Godderz, and former WWE star Rick Boogs alongside Roden.

Reality of Wrestling’s Josiah Jean rounds out the newest wave of invitees. The Houston native, who has worked enhancement matches for ROH in the past, announced the news on social media and credited Booker T and Sharmell for helping prepare him for the opportunity. “This is the biggest step forward to fulfilling a dream I’ve always believed in for me,” Jean wrote, adding that he considers it just the beginning of his climb in the business.

The additions continue to broaden what’s become one of WWE’s more talent-rich tryout classes in recent memory, blending indie standouts, titleholders from rival promotions, and crossover reality-TV athletes. As with any SummerSlam week tryout, a strong showing in front of WWE officials could translate into a future contract offer — making the Minneapolis sessions a notable watch for anyone tracking the next wave of names who might turn up on WWE television down the line.
