Fatal Influence Wins WWE Women’s Tag Titles at Saturday Night’s Main Event

Fatal Influence are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions after toppling Paige and Brie Bella in controversial fashion at Saturday Night’s Main Event, which took place Saturday, July 18, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid, with Jacy Jayne working the outside throughout, dethroned the champions in the show’s opening main-card match. Paige and Brie Bella came out hot, leaning on quick tags and double-team offense, and Brie had the Garden crowd roaring with her patented “Brie Mode” sequence — Yes Kicks and a missile dropkick that nearly ended the challengers’ night early. Paige also came agonizingly close to holding onto the titles after weathering a lengthy beatdown from Fatal Influence.

But Jayne wouldn’t stay out of it. She repeatedly distracted the referee and interfered at key moments, finally shoving Paige during a pinning attempt to swing momentum back to her stablemates. Henley followed with a rolling neckbreaker, setting up Reid to score the pinfall and capture the first title of Fatal Influence’s run as a trio.

The finish leaves plenty of unfinished business between the two teams heading toward SummerSlam season, with Jayne’s fingerprints all over the title change likely to fuel a rematch demand from the deposed champions.

Elsewhere on the card, WWE United States Champion Trick Williams retained his title against AAA star Laredo Kid in a match that opened the broadcast following the Countdown show. Laredo Kid’s high-flying attack gave Williams some trouble, but the champion ultimately connected with the Trick Shot for the pin.

The show also featured build toward SummerSlam, including NXT Champion Oba Femi addressing his Hell in a Cell rematch with Brock Lesnar. With their series tied 1-1, Femi argued he now has the psychological edge heading into their showdown. Stephanie McMahon joined commentary for the Countdown portion of the broadcast, while Joe Tessitore anchored the call and noted the arrivals of stars including Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, and Gunther ahead of the show.
