Dragon Lee’s WWE Future In Question As Contract Nears Expiration

Dragon Lee’s time in WWE could be approaching a crossroads. The masked luchador’s contract is reportedly set to expire in the near future, and a fresh trademark filing has already sparked speculation about where he might land next.

Lee and his brother, AEW’s Dralistico, have filed a trademark for the term “Hermanos Lee,” a strong signal that the two are laying groundwork for a tag team pairing whenever their respective deals allow it. Notably, Dralistico’s AEW contract is also winding down, opening the door for the siblings to reunite under one roof for the first time in either company on a full-time basis.

The timing couldn’t be more fitting for Dragon Lee, who has quietly turned in one of the strongest in-ring years of his career in 2026. After years of being used sporadically, Lee has become a go-to hand for delivering standout matches, showcasing the high-flying, hard-hitting style that made him a star long before he ever set foot in a WWE ring.

That style was forged across two very different promotions. Lee spent six years in CMLL, where he captured the World Lightweight and World Welterweight Championships twice apiece, becoming a beloved figure in Mexican lucha libre. He later made his mark in NJPW, most memorably winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in a three-way with Bandido and Taiji Ishimori at the 2019 ROH x NJPW G1 Supercard show — one of the most talked-about junior heavyweight matches of that era.

Given that history, both CMLL and NJPW remain plausible landing spots if Lee opts to leave WWE. A CMLL return would likely be treated as a homecoming for a promotion that has seen renewed momentum in recent years, while NJPW could offer him a chance to reclaim the junior heavyweight spotlight he once owned — potentially even alongside Dralistico if the timing lines up.

Then there’s AEW, where Lee isn’t exactly a stranger. Back in 2022, he appeared on AEW programming alongside Dralistico and RUSH, giving fans a brief glimpse of the extended Lee/RUSH family dynamic in Tony Khan’s promotion. Should Dralistico stay put and Dragon Lee follow him there, AEW’s well-documented emphasis on in-ring storytelling could make it a natural fit for a performer whose calling card is match quality above all else.

Of course, WWE re-signing him remains very much on the table too. Lee’s 2026 push suggests the company sees real value in him, and locking him down — potentially while also bringing in Dralistico to form Hermanos Lee under the WWE banner — would keep one of wrestling’s most technically gifted brother acts together without either side having to poach a rival roster.

Nothing is confirmed yet, and the trademark filing alone doesn’t guarantee any specific outcome. But with two contracts expiring in the same window and four promotions with legitimate ties to the Lee family, the coming months figure to be pivotal for where Dragon Lee — and possibly Hermanos Lee as a duo — ends up next.
