Chelsea Green: Ladders Scare Me More Than My SummerSlam Rivals

Chelsea Green is heading into one of the biggest matches of her career at SummerSlam, but according to her, the scariest part of the night has nothing to do with Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, or Tiffany Stratton. It’s the ladders.

Green is among the competitors set for the ladder match to determine an interim WWE Women’s Champion, a match created after Rhea Ripley’s injury left the title without a champion able to defend it. Speaking on TMZ Inside The Ring, Green explained that her history with ladder matches has left her more than a little rattled heading into the bout.

“I’m most worried about the ladders,” Green said. “The last time that I was in a WWE ladder match was Money in the Bank in Toronto, Ontario, and I fell off the ladder through a table. So ladders aren’t really my friend. They’re actually my biggest op at the moment.” She added that she plans to spend the week ahead confronting that fear head-on, joking when asked directly if she’s afraid of heights: “Chelsea Green is.”

Despite the nerves, Green framed her position in the match as a no-lose situation. With the field stacked with established stars, she pointed out that a loss would simply mean falling short against proven champions, while a win would be a legacy-defining upset. “If I lose, it’s okay. I’m losing to champions,” she said, name-checking a “14 time champion,” Jade Cargill as “the baddest B in wrestling,” and “multi time champion” Tiffany Stratton. “If I win, then the underdog did the impossible.”

Green also addressed the complicated nature of the interim title itself, acknowledging that whoever wins will immediately have a target on their back once Ripley is medically cleared to return. “It means that you are the WWE Women’s Champion for the time being, but when Rhea comes back, she will be automatically challenging you,” Green explained, noting that the eventual unification bout is already baked into the storyline regardless of how many title defenses come before it.

As for the match itself, the field isn’t even complete yet. Green said one more participant is expected to be revealed, and she anticipates that announcement will come before SummerSlam. She closed the interview with a clear goal in mind: shedding the “interim” tag for good. “Hopefully, the next time we speak, I am your new WWE not interim champion,” she said.

For a performer who has spent years as a scene-stealing act on the midcard, this program represents real elevation. Green has built her character around being underestimated, and a ladder match against four decorated champions is the kind of spotlight that can turn a fan favorite into a legitimate championship-level star overnight.
