Darius Rucker To Sing National Anthem At WWE SummerSlam

Darius Rucker is headed to Minneapolis for WWE’s biggest party of the summer. WWE revealed on this week’s episode of Raw that the two-time Grammy winner will perform the National Anthem at SummerSlam on Sunday, August 2.

Rucker, known both for his solo country career and as the frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, has been building ties with WWE for a few months now. Back in April, he struck a merchandise partnership with the company, and this anthem performance marks the latest step in that growing relationship.

Bringing in a recognizable musical name to open the show is a familiar SummerSlam tradition, and Rucker’s star power should add some extra shine to the pre-show atmosphere in Minneapolis. WWE has yet to detail any additional entertainment plans for the event beyond Rucker’s anthem, but with SummerSlam just under two weeks away, more segments and appearances are likely to be announced as the show approaches.
