Following Tommy Dreamer’s departure from TNA Wrestling on June 17, a story from indie wrestler Carlie Bravo has resurfaced and is drawing attention across wrestling social media.
Bravo took to social media to recount a past interaction he had with Dreamer, sharing his account in response to a post from referee Perch. According to Bravo, Dreamer told him directly that he couldn’t hire him because he didn’t know how he would market a cocky Black guy. The comment, attributed to a conversation that took place years ago, is now circulating widely in the wake of Dreamer’s exit from TNA.
Dreamer spent roughly a decade with TNA in a variety of behind-the-scenes roles — working in creative, producing matches, and helping scout talent — before parting ways with the promotion this month. His departure made headlines on its own, and Bravo’s account has added a sharper edge to the conversation surrounding Dreamer’s legacy with the company.
The allegation speaks to a broader, ongoing discussion in professional wrestling about the barriers Black performers face when trying to break into or advance within the industry — particularly when their character work doesn’t fit a narrow mold that promoters feel comfortable selling. Bravo’s willingness to go public with the story puts a specific, named example into that conversation.
As of now, neither Dreamer nor TNA has publicly responded to Bravo’s account.
