The Golden Star doesn’t want to be bound by any limitations.
Kota Ibushi had an illustrious career in New Japan Pro Wrestling that didn’t end on a positive note. Ibushi accused NJPW higher-ups of playing dirty politics. He also claimed the backstage drama pushed his mother to attempt suicide. On January 31, 2022, Ibushi parted ways with NJPW after his contract expired.
It was previously reported that Ibushi had expressed his interest to join WWE. The first-ever IWGP World Heavyweight Champion had said he was open to signing with the sports and entertainment juggernaut if they would let him coach the next generation of talents and have high-profile matches.
According to the latest report from WrestleVotes (via GiveMeSport), Ibushi doesn’t want to sign a full-time contract with Vince McMahon’s company and he’s looking to explore free agency.
Ibushi is set to have his comeback match against Mike Bailey as part of Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 9 event tonight. The multi-time G1 Climax winner injured his shoulder right before his return to the ring. As of this writing, the match is still on.
