AEW are making swift plans for it’s brand new Saturday night show, with reports from the Wrestling Observer stating the show is set to be headlined by a returning CM Punk.
Punk has not appeared on AEW television since the now infamous backstage brawl at September’s All Out pay-per-view, with many in the business criticising Punk for his actions which led to many of AEW’s top talent being suspended.
Punk has continued to draw fire from many within the business during his time away, laying several accusations at AEW talent in a recent social media post. In the post which has since been deleted, Punk alleged that AEW pressured him to compete when not cleared, Jon Moxley refused to lose to him, and Chris Jericho is a liar
Attention has now turned to how AEW can bring Punk back into the fold at AEW. An idea has been speculated that AEW may look to invoke some sort of roster split with talent separated between Dynamite and it’s new show, AEW Collision. It’s believed this option would allow Punk to return to action while coming into minimal contact with the talent that may not be as willing to work with him as others. Bryan Alvarez adds that due to the locker room being split over Punk, those who get along with/have sided with Punk will move to Collision, while those who still have a problem with him will remain on Dynamite.
While all of this is yet to be confirmed, it’s expected the announcement of the new Saturday show will be made by AEW within the next few weeks.
